Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is a home inspection?
A home inspection is a non-invasive, visual inspection of the systems and components of a home. A home inspection is not a warranty or guarantee, but is designed to point out any material defects that are present at the time of inspection. Also keep in mind that every house has problems, even new construction, but everything is fixable.
Who needs a home inspection?
Most home inspections are performed for a buyer during a real estate transaction. A home inspection may also be performed for the seller before a real estate transaction just to give them an idea of the condition of the home before the sale. Although these are the most common, a home inspection may be performed any time the home owner is interested in the condition of the home.
What is inspected during a home inspection?
The home inspection will include a visual, non-invasive inspection of the homes components and systems from the roof to the foundation. For a detailed list of what is and what isn't inspected, check out the STANDARDS OF PRACTICE that we follow.
What is radon?
Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that’s produced by decaying uranium in soil, rocks and water. Prolonged exposure to high levels of radon can increase the risk of lung cancer.
Should I get a radon test?
Testing for radon is easy, generally inexpensive, and should be considered for all homes. If high levels are found a radon mitigation can be installed for a relatively low cost to reduce indoor levels. A radon test can be performed at the time of inspection or any time.
Should I be present for the home inspection?
We invite you to be present during your entire inspection. If you can't be present, we recommend you join the last 60 minutes so that we can explain any findings and answer any questions you may have. Also, if you are a first time home buyer, your inspection can give you tips on maintaining your home.
How long does a home inspection take?
A home inspection can take anywhere from two to four hours or even longer depending on the age, size, and style of the home.
How much does a home inspection cost?
The price of the home inspection can vary from home to home depending on the age, size, and location of the home. For a more precise estimate, give us a call or fill out the information on our schedule and inspection page.
